Sophomore first baseman Chris Serritella is hitting .441 over his last 24 games with 11 doubles, four home runs and 30 RBIs. He has hit two doubles in each of his last two games. Serritella, who currently leads the team in batting average, home runs and RBIs, has a chance to become SIU's first triple-crown winner since 2005 and just the 10th in school history.
With a sweep of Missouri State this weekend and two loses from Indiana State, the Salukis can secure the No. 3 seed at the conference tournament. SIU has been the three-seed three times under head coach Dan Callahan (1996, 2003 and 2005).
Senior right-handed pitcher Bryant George, SIU's all-time saves leader, needs to make two more appearances to break the school record for most appearances in a career.
Game three of the series will be the 1,200th game in 21 seasons as a Division I head coach for Dan Callahan.
Southern Illinois is hitting .406 as a team over its last three games and has won the three by a combined score of 30-15. The Dawgs have 43 hits in the three games with nine doubles and four home runs.
The Salukis are looking to snap a five game losing streak to Missouri State.
Senior catcher Tyler Bullock needs one more home run to move into sole possession of second place for the most homers hit in a career. He enters the series with 11 home runs this season and 28 in his career.
