The Southern Illinois baseball team travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for a three-game series at Middle Tennessee, May 7-9 at Reese Smith Field. Fans can listen to all three games on the Saluki Radio Network with the "Voice of the Salukis" Mike Reis' call. Friday's game is on WVZA 105.1-FM while Saturday and Sunday's are on WFRX 1300-AM. The Blue Raiders won the two games earlier this year at Abe Martin Field by a combined score of 30-10.
The Salukis enter the weekend series at Middle Tennessee with a six-game winning streak. This is the second time this year that Southern has won six consecutive games and is the fourth time under head coach Dan Callahan that SIU has won six or more consecutive games twice in a season.
Middle Tennessee ranks 20th nationally in hits and 12th in home runs, as the Blue Raiders have hit 68 on the year. The Saluki pitching staff has not allowed a homer in the past five games.
Southern Illinois' 43 home runs hit this year are the most since the Dawgs hit 73 in 1998.
Sophomore first baseman Chris Serritella has hit safely in 16-consecutive games entering the weekend series. His is batting .438 over the course of his hitting streak and has six doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs in that span.
SIU's starting pitchers for Friday and Saturday's games, Nathan Forer and Randy Hoelscher, have a combined ERA of 2.49 since March 27.
Southern Illinois has 10 games left before the 2010 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, which runs May 25-29 in Wichita, Kan. The Salukis currently sit in fifth place in the MVC.
