ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois senior right-hander Nathan Forer was one of 13 league baseball players named to the 2010 MVC Scholar-Athlete first team, as voted on by the conference's baseball sports information directors and announced by the league office Thursday.
Forer was one of five unanimous selections, joining Illinois State's Ryan Court, Alex Acheson of Evansville and Wichita State's Jordan Cooper and Cody Lassley.
The announcement comes one day after Forer was taken in the 46th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees.
The 6-1, 172-pounder from Brampton, Ontario, Canada was a second team All-MVC selection in 2010 when his 3.28 ERA was the fourth lowest in the league.
He allowed one or no earned runs in five of his 11 starts on the year and held MVC hitters to a .256 batting average off of him.
After allowing just one run and six hits over eight innings in a 3-1 win over Bradley on April 3, Forer was named the MVC Pitcher of the Week and MVC/Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week. He also garnered ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V first team honors this year.
Forer graduated from Southern Illinois this spring with a bachelor's degree in sociology and a minor in psychology.
