First Quarter
Chris Dieker completed his first pass attempt of the game, which was his 300th career completion. He is now one of eight Saluki quarterbacks in school history to complete 300 passes in a career.
Freshman Boo Rodgers intercepted Illini wide receiver Eddie McGee's pass at 6:46. It was his second interception of the season and gave SIU the ball at the Illini 40-yard line.
Kyle Dougherty came up just short on a 56-yard field goal attempt at 5:51. It was the longest attempt of his career.
SIU's first down at 2:34 on a 11-yard Dieker to Kyle Harruff pass was its first first-down of the game. It was Dieker's first completed pass in his last eight attempts.
Three plays after that first down, the Salukis converted their first third-down attempt. They started 0-for-4 on third downs.
Southern Illinois trailed 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. The Salukis did not trail by 14 points in the first half of any game last season.
Southern Illinois had 39 yards of total offense in the first period, with 27 of that coming on the last drive. SIU had ball on its own 41-yard line with a second-and-five to start the second quarter.
Second Quarter
Korey Lindsey and Stephen Franklin stopped Troy Pollard for a one-yard loss on a third-and-three at 9:54. It was SIU's first stop behind the line of scrimmage in the game.
Mike McElroy picked off McGee on his third pass attempt of the game. It was McElroy's 11th-career interception. It gave the Salukis the ball on the Illini 20-yard line.
Kyle Dougherty tied the SIU school record for most field goals made in a career with his 30-yard kick at 4:58. It was the 50th of his career. Craig Coffin (2002-06) previously held the school record.
Joe Allaria's 10-yard reception on a third-and-12 at Southern's own 42-yard line gave him a catch in 22 consecutive games.
After completing just one of his first eight passes, Dieker finished the half by completing 11-of-16 passes.
Southern Illinois was 2-for-10 on third-down conversions in the first half.
Third Quarter
