Saluki Football In-Game Notes vs. Quincy
Pre-game Notes
SIU Captains: 5, 14, 26, 47
Quincy won the toss, elected to receive. SIU to defend the South goal.
First Quarter
Saluki outside linebacker Jayson DiManche had a two-yard tackle-for-a-loss on the first offensive play of the game.
Lucien Walker's 16-yard rushing touchdown at 8:59 was the first points ever scored at Saluki Stadium.
Connor James forced a fumble at 1:31, which was recovered by Robert Spann. It was the second forced fumble of James' career and the first fumble recovery of Spann's career.
Second Quarter
Chris Dieker threw an 11-yard TD pass to Jeff Evans on the first play of the second quarter.
Junior Shariff Harris scored his first rushing touchdown as a Saluki at the 10:32 mark, doing so on a 6-yard run.
Paul McIntosh came in to quarterback the Salukis for the last six minutes of the second quarter.
Third Quarter
Lucien Walker had a career-long 39-yard rush on the first play of the third quarter. Walker capped off his drive with his third rushing TD of the game. He only had two rushing touchdowns in his career coming into the night. Dieker threw his second touchdown pass of the game at 10:54, a 42-yard pass to Kyle Harruff on a one-play, nine-second drive. E.J. Clark recovered the first fumble of his career on a kickoff at 10:52. Freshman running back Steve Strother scored the first touchdown of his career on a seven-yard pass from Paul McIntosh. Harris scored SIU's fourth TD of the third quarter on a three-yard run at 2:22.
Fourth Quarter
Steve Strother scored his first career rushing touchdown on a one-yard run at 12:13.
Final Notes
The attendance for the inaugural game in Saluki Stadium was, 15,276 and it was an official sellout. It was also the second largest attendance at a home opener in school history and the ninth-largest ever for a Southern Illinois game.
