No. 13 Southern Illinois travels to Youngstown State for the first Missouri Valley Football Conference game of the season for both schools. Kickoff at Stambaugh Stadium is set for 3 p.m. CT...Fans can listen to the game on the Saluki Sports Network beginning at 2 p.m on WVZA-FM 105.1 in Carbondale. "Voice of the Salukis" Mike Reis, Gene Green (analyst) and Joel Sambursky (sideline) are calling the action...The Salukis put to test its conference-record 14-game winning streak in Valley games this week. SIU's last league loss came on Oct. 4, 2008, when No. 6 North Dakota State beat the Dawgs, 35-27, in Fargo...Southern Illinois has won its last eight MVFC openers, which is the longest active streak in the conference...The Salukis have dropped down to No. 13 in both major polls after a pair of back-to-back losses. However, this is SIU's 95th-consecutive week being ranked in the Top 20 and that is one off the longest streak in MVFC history...Senior wide receiver Joe Allaria needs three more receptions to become the ninth Saluki in program history with 100 in a career...Southern Illinois has converted just 6-of-25 third down attempts in the last two games, while its opponents are 17-for-28...After gaining just 46 yards rushing against Illinois, the Salukis picked up 172 yards on the ground last week against SEMO...It has been eight years since the last time Southern Illinois lost three-straight games.
Saluki Headlines
SIU has won eight-straight Missouri Valley Football Conference openers and enters league play with an active 14-game conference winning streak, which is a league record. Steve Strother was named a Kickoff Returner Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his 91-yard return for a TD against SEMO. SIU has outscored Youngstown State 60-8 in its last two meetings and the Salukis shutout the Penguins, 33-0, in their last trip to Stambauch Stadium.
