SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The SIU swimming and diving team dropped decisions to Missouri State on Saturday.
The men fell by a score of 132-111 while the women came up short in a 132-109 loss to the reigning Missouri Valley Conference champions.
While the scores didn't add up for the Salukis, Kirsten Groome added two individual wins while Brittany Weigel shined on the platform winning both the 1 meter and 3 meter dive.
In the 100 freestyle, Groome edged her competition by 14 seconds with a 10:08.01 finish while finishing the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.88. Diver Brittany Weigel won the 1 and 3 meter dive with a score of 252.22 while teammate Anna Beeck followed in second with a 220.72.
"In swimming there are phases to season and we are training higher right now and there are teams that can take advantage of that and that's what Missouri State did today and in the end, they just swam better than we did," Walker said.
Lusia Silveira won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.65 while Hannah Pinion narrowly defeated Missouri State's Brianna Willoughby by one hundreth of a second in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:07.95.
