Adam Fabik named MVC Tennis Athlete of the Week

St. Louis, Mo. -- Southern Illinois freshman Adam Fabik was named one of this week's Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Athletes of the Week, along with Northern Iowa's Phoebe Walker.
The Svitavou, Czech Republic native played #1 for the Salukis last week against Morehead State, where he won his singles match 6-1, 6-1. This past fall in his first experience in collegiate play, Adam won 17 straight matches and finished the fall season 17-1 -- a new SIU record for singles wins in a fall season, previously held by Lukasz Soswa.
In his first tournament, Adam took home the Flight A crown at the Purdue Invitational, defeating players from Iowa, Purdue, Notre Dame and Western Michigan along the way. Fabik won two more tournaments in the fall (Austin Peay and Paducah Sun), and advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Central Regionals at Oklahoma in October.
The Salukis will face the Governors of Austin Peay Friday in Clarksville, Tenn.
