CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois men's tennis team improved to 4-1 by beating Northern Illinois, 5-2, Sunday at Sports Blast, extending its winning streak to three.
Freshmen Adam Fabik (6-3, 6-1) and Carlos Do Val (7-5, 6-2), remained undefeated in singles at 5-0 on the spring. In doubles, the duo of Falk De Beenhouwer and Orhan Spahic also stayed perfect on the year by beating NIU's Bryant Poggensee-Wei and Maximilian Phillips, 8-6.
On the spring dual match season, the Salukis are 25-5 in singles with an .833 winning percentage.
"Going in I knew it was going to be a battle," said Saluki head coach Dann Nelson. "Northern is a very good team and they're very confident, but we're a good team and we're very confident, too."
The Salukis host Murray State on March 6 at Sports Blast with play beginning at noon.
