CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois softball team will return to the field as it hosts Saint Louis in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
After an unexpected week off, the Salukis (16-10, 3-0 MVC) will host the Billikens (19-12, 4-2 A10) in a mid-week doubleheader with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. with game two to follow approximately at 5 p.m.
Unplayable field conditions due to snow in Omaha last weekend forced the conference series cancellation between the Dawgs and Creighton.
SIU will return to the field since a 5-2 loss to Illinois on March 23 at Charlotte West Stadium.
The two teams renew a series that will have a special meaning as current Billiken head coach Christy Connoyer returns to her old stomping ground.
Connoyer spent five years (2005-10) as the associate/assistant coach for the Salukis before departing for Saint Louis in August 2010.
She's not the only former Saluki on staff at SLU, her assistants Katie Wagner (2006-09) and Ashley Hamby (2004-07) were both standout players for the Salukis.
The Salukis currently lead the all-time series 38-2 and last met on April 22, 2009 when they swept the doubleheader in St. Louis, Mo.
