CARBONDALE, Ill. - Due to expected rain in the forecast, Southern Illinois' baseball game against Missouri State on Friday at Abe Martin Field has been postponed until Saturday.
The Salukis (12-20, 3-0 MVC) and Bears (19-12, 2-1) will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. and one game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Missouri State has won eight out of the last 11 over Southern Illinois and enters the weekend after taking 2-of-3 games from Wichita State to open conference play.
The home series is a big one for Southern, as it is fresh off a sweep at Evansville last weekend. The Salukis have won five out of their last six games overall, including Wednesday night's 3-0 win at Illinois.
SIU was the only Valley team last weekend to go 3-0. The Salukis were backed behind three strong performances from their starting pitchers, Cameron Maldonado, Cody Forsythe and Brad Drust.
The three combined to throw 29.1 innings, struck out 17 batters and gave up just four runs (three earned) in the three wins.
Maldonado (3-4, 5.22 ERA) is set to throw game one against MSU Saturday and Forsythe (3-3, 2.44) will start the second game of the doubleheader. Drust (1-2, 3.80) is penciled in for Sunday's series finale.
