Spring Game set for Friday night at Saluki Stadium

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois football team concludes spring ball with its annual Spring Game in Saluki Stadium this Friday night at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
Saluki Row will be open and fans are welcome to tailgate for free. The SIU Ticket office will also be open for fans wanting to renew or purchase season tickets.
The Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund is hosting a member appreciation tailgate party on Saluki Row, beginning at 5 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided for SASF members.
Included in Friday night's activities is the unveiling of the new bronze Saluki statue at the main entrance to Saluki Stadium and SIU Arena. It is the final piece of the Saluki Way puzzle and a brief ceremony will be held, starting at 5 p.m.
No outside food, beverages or animals will be permitted into Saluki Stadium. The berm on the North end zone will be open to fans, weather permitting.
An autograph session will be held on the field at the conclusion of the Spring Game.
The Spring Game will be similar to the past two Saluki scrimmages, where the team will work on various game situations and run a set number of plays. It is expected to last 90 minutes.
Southern Illinois opened up spring practice on Monday, March 28 and has held its allotted 15 practices that are granted by the NCAA, with practice No. 15 coming this Friday.
The Salukis open the 2011 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, when it plays at regional rival Southeast Missouri State. SIU's home opener lies on Sept. 24 against Missouri State and the game is a part of Family Weekend at Southern Illinois.
