DES MOINES, Iowa - Meredith Hayes took 11th place in the 100m hurdles Friday morning at the Drake Relays in what turned out to be a light day of competition for the Salukis.
Hayes took third place in the final heat of the preliminary round with a time of 14.01. The senior beat out Kansas State's Denise Baker by one-tenth of a second, but fell short of qualifying for the finals by seven hundredths of a second.
"Meredith did not seem to have a great race today with the wind," said SIU head coach Connie Price-Smith. "It did not look like the rest of the competition had a great day, either."
Gwen Berry was scheduled to throw in the women's shot put. However, the senior did not compete in order to prepare for Saturday's hammer throw, which she won at last year's Drake Relays. Berry will be joined by Olga Ciura in the event, which begins at 9 a.m.
J.C. Lambert (hammer throw), Jake Deiters (discus) and Zach Dahleen (1500m) will all compete tomorrow on the men's side.
