Football announces 2011 special gameday promotions

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 2011 edition of Saluki football will serve as the second season in Saluki Stadium, where Southern Illinois hosts five regular season home games.
After starting the year with road games at Southeast Missouri State and Ole Miss, then a bye week, the Salukis open up the home and Missouri Valley Football Conference schedule on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. vs. Missouri State. Southern Illinois University will welcome to campus all families and friends of students for the annual Family Weekend festivities.
On Oct. 8, the Salukis will honor our American heroes during Military Appreciation Day and take part in the national Wounded Warrior Project when SIU hosts North Dakota State at 2 p.m. Local military personnel and veterans will be honored throughout the game and take part in the coin toss and other activities. All active military and veterans will receive special discount tickets to the game.
The Salukis will then host Homecoming festivities the weekend of Oct. 15, when the Penguins of Youngstown State visit Southern Illinois for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
After a trip to Cedar Falls to play Northern Iowa, the Salukis host Illinois State for the annual Maroon Out game on Oct. 29 at 2 p.m.
SIU begins November on the road, but returns to Saluki Stadium on Nov.12 to host Eastern Illinois at 2 p.m. on Senior Day. A special announcement will be made at a later date regarding the Nov. 12 game promotion.
The Saluki football experience begins five hours prior to each game with tailgating on Saluki Row.
