Illinois State powers past Baseball in extra innings

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Illinois State hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the 10th inning to complete its late-game magic and defeat the Southern Illinois baseball team, 11-9, Saturday at a wet Abe Martin Field.
SIU led 9-7 entering the top of the ninth, but Ryan Court tied the game with his two-out, two-run homer to left field off of Saluki closer Tyler Dray.
Brock Stewart and Mike Hollenbeck then led off the 10th with solo homers off of Dray to lift the Redbirds (30-16, 9-8 Missouri Valley Conference) past the Salukis (19-30, 9-8).
Illinois State finished with 12 hits to Southern's 10. Stewart finished the day going 3-for-4 while Tyler McNeely, who homered in the fourth, had three RBIs.
Redbird reliever Kenny Long picked up the win, throwing three scoreless innings to improve to 3-1. Dray falls to 1-2 with his second blown save of the season.
SIU was led by Nick Johnson, who had a season-high three hits and tied his career-high with four RBIs. Jordan Sivertsen drove in a pair in SIU's five-run fifth inning and Chris Murphy scored three times.
The two teams will now play Sunday's 1 p.m. game to decide the series.
