CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois interim head baseball coach Ken Henderson announced Tuesday that the Salukis have signed infielder Adam Warda to a National Letter of Intent to attend school and play baseball at SIU beginning in the 2011-12 school year.
Warda, a 6-0, 190-pound prospect out of Skokie, Ill., is currently hitting .500 in his senior season at Niles North High School just north of Chicago.
"Adam is a strong athletic kid with a good work ethic and he will be a great addition to our team," Henderson said. "He has good instincts and actions in the infield and is a solid hitter with good bat speed."
Warda has a .940 slugging percentage this year at Niles North and has 11 doubles, eight home runs and 42 RBIs. He was an All-Conference selection as a sophomore in 2009 and is on the verge of breaking several school single-season and career records.
Henderson and the Salukis are in their final week of the 2011 regular season and head to Omaha, Neb. early next week for the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament held at TD Ameritrade Park, May 24-28.
