Duran, Orsburn named to Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region Teams

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mallory Duran and Taylor Orsburn have been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region teams announced Thursday.
Duran is a first-team Mideast selection while Orsburn is a second team honoree as both had outstanding performances for the Salukis this season.
Junior outfielder Duran led the team and was second in the Missouri Valley Conference with a .398 batting average and breaking the single season SIU record for runs scored with 54 this season. The Winston, Colo. native also had a team-high 64 hits, while recording nine doubles, two triples, and four home runs with 23 RBIs. She also held a .553 slugging percentage and .485 on base percentage and drew a team high 28 walks. Duran also went a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases and was an MVC All-Conference First Team selection while also being named to the All-Tournament team.
Orsburn wrapped up an impressive rookie campaign with the second best batting average on the team with a .345 and team-high 10 doubles. The freshman first baseman also launched 10 home runs this season, which ranks eighth in a single season, while holding a .627 slugging percentage and .447 on-base percentage and drove in 49 RBIs, which ranks second most in a single season. The Alto Pass, Ill. native was also flawless on the field, holding a 1.000 fielding percentage in the 2011 season. Orsburn was also an MVC All-Conference First Team selection.
The 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I All-Region teams, honoring student-athletes from the 10 NFCA regions. A total of 258 players from 126 different institutions comprise this season's regional teams, including first and second teams for each region. The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams
