Harding named to MVC Scholar-Athlete honorable mention team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois sophomore Brock Harding was named to the 2011 Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete honorable mention team that was announced Thursday by the Valley.
Harding, a second baseman, was second on the team with 61 hits and 36 runs scored this year while maintaining a 3.44 GPA in accounting. He was named to the MVC Academic Honor Roll as a freshman in 2010.
The Rochester, Ill. native has been very productive for the Salukis through two seasons. He has played in 87 games and made 82 starts and has 94 hits, 43 RBIs and 17 doubles in two seasons.
The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
