PHILDELPHIA, Pa. (Sports Network) - The Southern Illinois football team had three players that were named to The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Preseason All-America Teams that were released Friday morning.
Senior center Bryan Boemer and senior safety Mike McElroy both made the second team while senior left tackle David Pickard was a third team selection.
SIU's three selections to The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Preseason All-America Teams are more than any other school in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Both Pickard and Boemer enter their senior seasons having started in 24-straight games for the Salukis. The two have been selected to the All-MVFC team in each of the past two seasons and Pickard was a third team All-America selection by The Sports Network in 2009.
McElroy is coming off a medical redshirt season, as he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in the second week of the 2010 season. McElroy was on the preseason Buck Buchanan Award watch list entering that year. In 2009, he tied for fourth in the nation and led the MVFC with nine interceptions.
