HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. - The Southern Illinois men's golf team is set for the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, hosted on Oct. 22-23 by Austin Peay State University. The tournament format calls for 36 holes on Monday, Oct. 22, and 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The 13 participating teams will play at the Par 72, 7,132-yard Links at Novadell.
Austin Peay won the tournament last year and has won two of the last four years. Peay's Marco Iten won the individual title last year with a score of 208. Host Austin Peay has won the tournament in seven of the 12 years it has been held, and a Peay golfer has won the individual crown seven times, as well.
Southern Illinois is participating in the tournament for the first time. The tournament has been held annually since 1999, with the exception of a rain-out in 2007. The tournament moved to a 54-hole format, instead of 36 holes, in 2004.
The Salukis are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Skyhawk Fall Classic. Brandon Cauldwell led the team and tied for second in the tournament. Cauldwell shot his third career sub-68 round at the tournament, making him the first golfer in SIU history to shoot three sub-68 rounds. He earned Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for his effort, his second weekly honor of the year.
