BUCHANAN, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois men's golf team is set to defend its team and individual titles at the Skyhawk Fall Classic on Oct. 8-9. SIU swept the team and individual crowns last year, with Jake Erickson winning the individual title. The tournament is being held at the 6,685-yard Paris Landing Golf Club.
In 2011, the team won the tournament by 14 strokes to win Southern's first team tournament title in three years. Erickson's individual title was the first individual crown for Southern in four years. Erickson went on to be named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week.
Brandon Cauldwell, Joe Goelzhauser and Jeffrey Miller all also competed last year and all finished among the top-20 individuals.
The course is nearly 900 yards shorter than the course SIU's most recent tournament, the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate. Last year's team score at the Skyhawk Fall Classic (860) was the seventh-lowest three-round team score in school history and the lowest team score in three years.
