Erickson earns MVC Golfer of the Week honor

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois junior Jake Erickson earned Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors, the conference announced Wednesday night. Erickson won his second tournament of the year on Tuesday, becoming the second golfer in SIU history to win two tournaments in the same year.

Erickson tied for first place at the 54-hole Grover Page Classic, held on Monday and Tuesday. Erickson landed a spot on the four-man All-Tournament team and led the Salukis to a second-place finish in the tournament. Erickson shot a 217 (+1), his second-best three-round score this year. He led the Salukis in scoring for the third tournament in a row and fourth time in the last five tournaments.

Erickson joined Brian Norman as the only two golfers to win two tournaments in same year. Norman won two tournaments in 2003-04.

The Salukis are back in action on April 2-3 at the ASU Redwolves Intercollegiate.
