CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Three Southern Illinois track and field athletes will travel to Notre Dame and the University of Arkansas this weekend for one more chance at an automatic qualifying mark that would place them at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 10-12 in Boise, Idaho.
Senior Cody Doerflein is competing in the Arkansas's Last Chance Meet on Friday in the pole vault competition. Doerflein currently ranks 25th in the nation with the mark of 17-04.5 that he recorded at last weekend's MVC Indoor Championships.
Zach Dahleen and Stephen Arvanis will look to make the NCAA cut on Saturday in South Bend, Ind. at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
Dahleen, the two-time defending Missouri Valley Conference champion in the one mile run, will look to qualify in that event. Stephen Arvanis is set to compete in the 800-meter run. Arvanis recorded the fasted time in Valley this season in the 800m with a time of 1:50.49.
Friday's pole vault competition is set for 6 p.m. inside the Arkansas Randal Tyson Track Center, while the Alex Wilson Invitational will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.
