Football announces 2012 gameday promotions

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki Athletics has announced the gameday promotions for the 2012 Saluki football season. It will be as the program's third season in Saluki Stadium, which will host five regular season home games.
After starting the season with trips to Ohio Valley Conference opponent Eastern Illinois and MAC representative Miami (Ohio), the Salukis will open the home schedule on Saturday, September 15 at 6 p.m. against Southeast Missouri State. Prior to the game, Southern Illinois University will welcome all freshmen and students new to campus to take part in the Saluki Sprint across the field. This sprint will take place before kickoff and all of Southern Illinois is invited to welcome in the Class of 2017.
After a trip to Missouri State to begin Missouri Valley Conference play, the Salukis will take on Indiana State on Saturday, September 29 for a 6 p.m. kickoff. SIU will welcome all families and friends of students to campus for the annual Family Weekend festivities. Additionally on family weekend the Second Annual Saluki Kickoff 5K will be held on Saturday Morning at Saluki Stadium. The race is scheduled to start at 8 a.m., and registration information can be found at www.thesouthern.com.
The Salukis will then host the annual Homecoming festivities the weekend of October 13 when the Panthers of the University of Northern Iowa visit Southern Illinois for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
The Salukis play out the rest of October on the road but return home to begin the November portion of the schedule when they host South Dakota State on November 3 for a 2 p.m. kickoff. Southern Illinois University will honor our American Heroes during Military Appreciation Day and take part in the national Wounded Warrior Project on this game date. Local military personnel and veterans will be honored throughout the game and take part in the coin toss and other activities. All active military and veterans will receive special discount tickets to the game.
The Salukis will then take a late season bye week before returning to Saluki Stadium on Saturday, November 17 at 2 p.m. to complete the regular season. The game will serve as the annual Senior Day along with a yet to be announced promotion.
The Saluki Football Experience will begin five hours prior to each home game with the start of tailgating in the parking lots. The official Saluki tailgating on Saluki Row begins three hours before kickoff.
