CARBONDALE, Ill. - Coach Dale Lennon and the Saluki coaching staff will join with football coaches nationwide together in support of the Coach to Cure MD program when SIU hosts Indiana State for a 6 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 29. The rapidly growing annual effort has raised more than $1 million to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a fatal disease that is the leading genetic killer of young men.
To mark this event, the SIU coaching staff and thousands of members of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) across the country will wear a Coach to Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines during their games on Saturday.
College football fans will also be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused entirely on Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Fans can donate to Duchenne muscular dystrophy research either by going online to www.CoachtoCureMD.org or by texting the world CURE to 90999 to automatically add a $5 donation to your next phone bill.
There is currently no cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and limited therapeutic options exist.
