MADISON, Wisc.--The Southern Illinois men's tennis team nabbed their first win of the season Sunday competing against the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The Salukis saw success in single and doubles play, defeating the 2012 Summit League champions 5-2.
"We had a great team effort today," said SIU head coach Dann Nelson. "I am happy to get our first win of the season."
In singles action Badr Cherradi, Rafael Cuadrillero, Jonny Rigby and Martijn Admiraal all convincingly defeated their competitors. Badr Cherradi won in No. 3 singles topping UMKC's Connor Edwards 6-4, 6-3.
Southern Illinois swept the doubles competition. Martijn Admiraal and Brandon Florez took the No. 1 doubles title topping their opponents 8-3.
"Our doubles play improved and clinching the doubles points today was very important."
The Salukis return to action Sat., Feb. 2 when they travel to Clarksville, Tenn. to take on Austin Peay.
