Men's Tennis tops McKendree, 6-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- After a two week break in action, the Southern Illinois men's tennis team took care of business in their home opener, besting SIU alum and McKendree coach, Chris McMillin, 6-1.
Leading the way for Southern (3-2) in doubles play was Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal who defeated Gabor Toth and Luciano Misitrano, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Jorge Cavero and Syzmon Opieczonek bested their McKendree counterparts, 8-3.
"I am pleased with how we played in doubles," said head coach Dann Nelson"After a two week break, we needed to play and this was good for us."
In singles action SIU won 5-of-6 matches including four matches in two sets. Cavero defeated Misitrano (6-3, 6-2) at No. 2 singles while Badr Cherradi bested Toth (6-4, 6-1). Freshman Jonny Rigby topped Kandt (6-3, 7-5) and Admiraal won (6-1, 6-2). Rafael Cuadillero won by retiring Fabio Tsuchiya at the No. 4 spot.
"We are looking forward to Western Illinois tomorrow and hoping to improve even more," said Nelson.
Southern will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. at Sportsblast when they host Western Illinois.
