MEMPHIS, Tenn.-- The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team was out lasted by No. 31 University of Memphis on Friday, falling to the Tigers 4-0.
The Salukis couldn't match the depth of Memphis, struggling in singles and doubles competition.
"Memphis is a really good team," said SIU head coach Dann Nelson. "We were able to able to keep up with them in a few matches but they were too strong and deep."
In singles action, Jorge Cavero, Badr Cherradi and Martijn Admiraal all battled their opponents but the matches were unfinished.
"Who knows what would of happened if they guys were able to finish their matches," Nelson said.
Southern came out slow in the beginning of doubles but fought for each point. Jorge Cavero also battled in the No. 3 doubles spot, having the match go unfinished.
"We started slow again in doubles but fought back and showed some heart instead of giving up."
Southern Illinois returns to the court on Sat., Feb. 23 hosting McKendree in the home opener.
"We are excited to play at home soon, we have been on the road every weekend since school has started."
