CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's team wrapped up the final preliminary session of the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday and is ready to close out the meet strong in tonight's meet-ending finals session, starting at 7 p.m. in Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in the SIU Rec Center.
Till Pallmann will compete in his third A Final of the Championship in the 100-yard freestyle. Pallmann (45.06) posted the fifth-fastest time in the prelims. He already has on MAC Championship crown (500 free) and another top-three finish (200 free) under his belt and has secured first-team All-MAC honors. Esteavo Andrade will score for the second straight day after qualifying for the B Final.
Oleg Rabota will swim in tonight's first individual race, the 200-yard backstroke. Rabota (1:49.80) will have the fourth-fastest time in the B Final.
After posting the second-fastest time in school history in the 100-yard breaststroke yesterday, Calvin Kolar nearly cracked the top-five times in school history in the 200-yard breaststroke in prelims. He swam the event in 2:00.38, which was good for fifth overall.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Southern placed four swimmers in the B Final. Thomas Defay (1:52.71), Matt Frey (1:52.79), Brandon Vuong (1:54.86) and Jacob Lucheon (1:55.42) will all compete in the consolation final.
In diving, Kegan Skelton will compete in tonight's championship final in the three-meter dive. The prelims for the three-meter dive took place yesterday, and the A Final will compete before the meet ending 400-yard freestyle relay.
The meet kicks off with the first heat of the 1,650-yard freestyle at 5:40 p.m., with both Csaba Gercsak and Caleb Coots competing. After the heat, there will be an hour-long break before the start of tonight's A Finals at 7 p.m.
