WICHITA, Kan.-- The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team dropped their final regular season match Saturday at Wichita State, 6-1.
The day began with competitive doubles play as the Salukis (12-5, 3-2 MVC) and Shockers (15-7, 4-1 MVC) battled during each match. Badr Cherradi and Jonny Rigby was the only SIU duo that was able to come away with a win, topping their opponents 8-5.
Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal were defeated by a slim margin of 9-7 while Jorge Cavero and Szymon Opieczonek also dropped their contest narrowly with an 8-6 decision.
Wichita State held control during singles play as Southern was only able to escape with one match win to account for the Salukis lone point of the day.
Freshman Jonny Rigby took his match 6-4, 6-4 to record his sixth consecutive win. Rigby is currently 9-1 in his last 10 matches.
Southern Illinois will return to Wichita State April 26-28 for the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Tennis Championships.
