Salukis set for MVC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team is set to open play Friday at the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Championships hosted by Wichita State.
The Salukis enter the tournament as the third seeded team holding a record of 12-5, 3-2 MVC. SIU will face sixth seeded Creighton in the first round on Friday at 4 p.m. at Crestview Country Club in Wichita.
SIU and Creighton last met on April 12 in Carbondale. Southern was dominant throughout the entire match blanking the Jays 7-0.
Southern Illinois will meet up with No. 2 Wichita State on Saturday at 2 p.m. if they advance past Creighton on Friday.
Drake will look to defend their 2012 title entering the tournament as the league's top seeded team by virtue of its 5-0 conference mark. The Bulldogs received a bye into the championship semifinals on Saturday April 27.
