Men's Golf finishes 11th at D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

The Southern Illinois men's golf team finished 44-over par and 11th out of 15 teams at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, hosted by Illinois State University in Normal, Ill.
The Salukis were 22-over par (299-291) after two rounds, but shot a 20-over today (304) to slip one spot in the final standings. Loyola claimed the tournament title with a 16-over score, topping Purdue by one stroke at the 6,915-yard, par-71 Weibring Golf Club.
"We didn't play up to our ability," said SIU head coach Leroy Newton. "The weather wasn't good today, but everybody played in it, so that's no excuse."
SIU's top scorer was Drew Novara, who shot 8-over (72-75-74=221) for the tournament, good for 26th place out of 78 golfers. Wade Thompson (10-over), Steve Souchek (12-over) and Caleb Harms (14-over) rounded out the scoring for Southern.
"We had different kids shoot low scores at different times, and if we can just put it all together, we'll be fine," Newton said. "We have a lot of work to do, but this team has potential, and the teams that beat us today will have to worry about us down the road."
