Salukis Fall to Northern Illinois, 6-1

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team fell to Northern Illinois on Friday evening, 6-1. Michal Kianicka won at No 2 singles to give Southern its lone point in the contest, while Jorge Cavero and Szymon Opieczonek won at No. 3 doubles.
Kianicka rallied after falling in the first set 6-4 to win both the second and third sets, 6-4, 6-3, respectively. Jorge Cavero forced a third-set super tiebreak, but he fell 10-4. Filip Aleksic also forced a third set with a 6-2 second-set win, but he fell 6-0 in the deciding set.
In doubles, all three matches came down to the wire, but the Huskies took two of the three. The Salukis No. 1 duo of Jonny Rigby and Kianicka fell 6-5, and the No. 2 team of Rafael Cuadrillero and Aleksic also fell 6-5. But Cavero and Opienczonek took their match 6-5 for Southern's lone doubles win.
The Salukis turn around quickly, facing Detroit Mercy tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Rockford.
