Southern Illinois senior tight end MyCole Pruitt earned first-team All-America honors by the Associated Press, the organization announced Wednesday afternoon. Pruitt has earned a spot on All-America First Teams in each of the last three days by different organizations. Pruitt is the first player in program history to earn consensus first-team All-America honors in back-to-back seasons.
Pruitt led all Division I (FBS and FCS) tight ends in receptions (81), receiving yards (861) and receiving touchdowns (13) in 2014. His 81 receptions broke a 15-year-old single-season school record and helped him break the career record for receptions, as well. In the 30-year history of the Missouri Valley Football Conference, Pruitt holds career records for receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns among tight ends.
Earlier this week, Pruitt earned first-team All-America honors from the AFCA (on Monday) and the Walter Camp Foundation (on Tuesday). With the AP honor today marking his third first-team All-America honor, Pruitt is now the eighth player in program history to be a consensus first-team All-American. Earlier today, Pruitt also earned the 2014 CFPA Tight End Award as the top tight end in the FCS this year.
Pruitt is the fifth player to earn first-team All-America honors from the AP under head coach Dale Lennon, joining Larry Warner, Brandin Jordan, Deji Karim and Korey Lindsey.
Just want to thank everybody for all the love and support. This year has been truly humbling for me. The best is yet to come.
