CLEVELAND - Southern Illinois senior tight end was one of 11 players named to the Athletics Directors Association All-America team on Thursday. The second-annual award recognizes the top student-athletes from FCS institutions at 11 different positions. Pruitt has earned the honor as the FCS ADA Top Collegiate Tight End in each of the first two seasons of the award.
Pruitt and Portland State punter Kyle Loomis are the only two players that have earned the honor in each of the last two seasons. Pruitt was one of five Missouri Valley Football Conference players on the 11-man squad.
Pruitt ended his SIU career as one of the best tight ends in FCS history. He is a three-year All-American and four-year All-MVFC selection. He holds MVFC records for career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns; and he holds SIU records for season and career receptions.
In 2014, Pruitt led all Division I (FBS and FCS) tight ends in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He caught 13 touchdowns passes, including at least one in all eight MVFC games. He earned consensus first-team All-America honors for the second-straight season, becoming the first player in program history to be a consensus first-team All-American two times.
The award adds to the long list of honors bestowed on Pruitt following the season. This week alone, Pruitt has been named a first-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation and Associated Press; he also earned the College Football Performance Awards' FCS Tight End of the Year award for the second-straight season.
