ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois University junior quarterback Mark Iannotti earned a spot on the 22-player Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team, the league announced on Tuesday. Iannotti's selection marks the 15th-straight year SIU has placed a Saluki on the All-Newcomer team, and he is the first SIU quarterback on the team since Paul McIntosh in 2009.
Iannotti threw 23 touchdown passes in 2014, the third-best single-season total in school history. He earned MVFC Newcomer of the Week honors after tying a school record with six touchdown passes in a 50-23 win over Southeast Missouri. He ended the regular season sixth in the MVFC in total offense, fourth in passing yardage and fourth in passing efficiency. His 23 touchdown passes ranked 15th nationally, and his 2,375 yards of total offense was the most at SIU since his quarterback coach, Nick Hill, set the school record in 2007 with 3,532 yards.
