Boemer, Williamson named Academic All-Americans

AUSTIN, Texas - Southern Illinois seniors Corey Boemer and Tyler Williamson were each named Capital One Academic All-Americans, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Boemer earned first-team Academic All-America honors, and Williamson earned second-team laurels.
SIU placed multiple student-athletes on CoSIDA's All-America teams for the third time in program history and first time since 2010. In total, SIU players have earned 14 Academic All-America honors, and eight of those have come since head coach Dale Lennon took over prior to the 2008 season.
Corey Boemer, 3.891 GPA, biological sciences // First Team, offensive line
Boemer is now a two-time Academic All-American after making the second team in 2013. He is SIU's second two-time Academic All-American in program history (David Pickard; 2010 [second team], 2011 [first team]). He is a two-time first-team Academic All-MVFC selection and a two-time Academic All-District selection. He is also a three-time recipient of the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. He started each of the final 24 games of his career and was a second-team All-Conference offensive lineman in 2014.
Tyler Williamson, 3.79 (Undergraduate in management) and 4.0 (Current graduate student in kinesiology) // Second Team, linebacker
Williamson earned second-team Academic All-America honors in 2014, becoming the 12th player in program history to earn a spot on an Academic All-America team. Williamson is a two-time first-team Academic All-MVFC selection and a two-time Academic All-District honoree. He earned the MVFC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and was an honorable mention All-MVFC linebacker in 2014. He was named to the 2012 MVFC All-Newcomer team and holds the school record for career forced fumbles with eight.
