MVFC Release | College Sports Madness Players of the Week
ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois seniors Tyler Williamson and Thomas Kinney earned weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference on Sunday. Williamson was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week and Kinney was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.Kinney went a perfect 5-for-5 on PATs and hit a critical 50-yard field goal against the wind in SIU's 38-21 win at No. 14 Eastern Illinois. He also sent three kickoffs out of the back of the end zone for touchbacks. With two career field goals of 50 yards or longer, Kinney is the first SIU kicker since 1975 with two 50+-yard field goals in a career, joining Ken Seaman as the only two SIU players with two of that length.
Williamson had a game-high 11 tackles in SIU's 38-21 at No. 14 Eastern Illinois on Saturday night. Williamson had a game-high seven solo stops and added a sack as SIU shutout the high-powered EIU offense in the second half. The Williamson-led defense didn't allow a first down in the third quarter, giving the offense a chance to come back from a 21-14 halftime deficit by forcing three EIU 3-and-outs to start the second half.
South Dakota State's Zach Zenner was named the MVFC Offensive Player of the Week after breaking the MVFC career rushing record, and Indiana State's Gary Owens was named the Newcomer of the Week after catching six passes for 199 yards against Tennessee Tech.
In addition, running back Malcolm Agnew was named the MVFC Offensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness. Agnew had 182 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the win; he averaged 9.6 yards per touch on the game.
