Rigby and Kianicka advance to quarterfinals at ITA Regional tournament

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – On Saturday at the ITA Regional tournament, senior Jonny Rigby and junior Michal Kianicka topped conference opponents from Wichita State in a competitive doubles match, advancing them to the quarterfinal round on Sunday.
Rigby and Kianicka took on Wichita State's duo of Miroslav Herzan and Haru Inoue, a doubles pair that was 6-1 entering the ITA Regional tournament. The match was close, but the Salukis finished with an 8-6 victory, advancing them to the quarterfinals.
"Jonny and mike played a very smart doubles match against a very good opponent who has some exceptional wins this fall," head coach Dann Nelson said. "We are happy to be through to the next round, and hopefully we can continue to play well and advance."
In tomorrow's match, Rigby and Kianicka will take on Matic Spec and Felix Corwin of Minnesota. The pair opened with a bye in the first round, and advanced with an 8-6 win over a team from South Dakota State and an 8-2 win against Oklahoma State's Lukas Finzelberg and Tristan Meraut. Prior to this weekend, Spec and Corwin had not played a doubles match together this season.
Rigby and Kianicka ware one of only eight teams competing in tomorrow's doubles competition. Live results from Sunday's match and other ITA Regional doubles and singles matches can be found here.
