WICHITA, Kan. - With only three matches left before the Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships, the Saluki men's tennis team travels to Wichita State on Wednesday to open conference play against the Shockers.
SIU faced stiff competition last weekend at the MTSU Shootout, dropping matches against Southern Alabama and conference rival Illinois State, but picking up an upset victory over DePaul on Saturday. The Salukis sit at 6-12 on the season with only two wins on the road and four at home.
Wichita State is 15-4 on the season and is undefeated at home. The Shockers have won three straight matches, topping Washburn, Creighton and Newman.
For the past two years, the Salukis have concluded their seasons with a loss to Wichita State at the MVC Team Championships. SIU's last victory came in 2009 when the Salukis topped the Shockers, 4-3, before going on to win the MVC Team Championships later that season.
Match time is set for 2 p.m. at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at Wichita State.
