DUE UP
The Salukis head to Nashville, Tenn. for the first of five-straight road games. SIU will face its third Ohio Valley Conference foe this season. Southern is 1-4 against the OVC this season.
TUESDAY'S STARTER
Right-hander Austin McPheron gets the start for the Salukis on Tuesday. The hard-throwing sophomore will make his second start of the season. McPheron took a loss in his lone start against Eastern Kentucky earlier this season. He has a 13.50 ERA with two strikeouts. His best outing this season came against TCU, where he pitched two scoreless inning and gave up one hit.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
SIU enters the contest with the Belmont Bruins holding a 2-12 record. Southern is coming off of a three-game home series with Northern Illinois that saw the Salukis take the opener with a 5-4 walk-off win. The Salukis are batting .225 as a team and hold a team ERA of 6.49. Greg Lambert leads the Salukis with 16 hits and eight RBIs.
BELMONT SERIES NOTES
SIU is 2-1 all-time against the Bruins, with both wins coming under coach Henderson. The Salukis defeated Belmont, 7-6, in last season's meeting.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
The Bruins enter Tuesday's game holding a 4-8 record. This past weekend, BU split a pair of games with Quinnipiac and Bradley, finishing the week 2-2. Senior Matt Beaty leads the Bruins with 20 hits and 17 RBIs. Belmont has hit 13 home runs so far this season. The pitching staff enters the contest holding a 5.13 ERA. Patrick McGrath takes the mound for the Bruins against Southern. The left-handed pitcher is 0-1 with a 9.39 ERA and five strikeouts.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
The Salukis are one of the youngest ball clubs in the MVC, with 26 freshmen and sophomores on the team.
FRESHMAN ALL-AMERICAN
LHP Kyle Pauly returns for his sophomore campaign after being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American last season. Pauly had a 2-3 record and a 1.43 ERA.
PRESEASON ACCOLADE
Freshman INF Chase Slone was Baseball America's pick to be the MVC Freshman of the Year.
HE'S GOING STREAKING
Freshman infielder Greg Lambert has a pair of streaks going, as he is currently in the midst of a 10 game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 14 straight games.
POCKET FULL OF DIMES
Chase Slone has been an iron wall at shortstop for SIU this season. The freshman infielder is tied for first in the MVC with 48 assists.
BROTHERS IN ARMS
SIU pitchers Bryce Sablotny, Anthony Shimkus, and Jacob Williams have returned for Southern after all three players missed the 2014 season after under going Tommy John surgery. All three have already made appearances this season.
