Salukis host Dallas Baptist in MVC showdown

DUE UP
After splitting a pair of midweek games, Southern Illinois returns to MVC with a three-game series against pre-season favorite Dallas Baptist.
FRIDAY'S STARTER
Chad Whitmer will make his first start as a Saluki on Friday against the Patriots. Whitmer has appeared in 13 games this season and has an 0-2 record with an ERA of 5.11. Whitmer has faced DBU one time in his career, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing three unearned on four hits. The sophomore has 22 strikeouts this season.
SATURDAY, SUNDAY STARTERS
The Saturday and Sunday starters remain the same, as Bryce Sablotny and Kyle Pruemer will take the mound for SIU. Sablotny is 1-3 this season with an ERA of 3.89, while Pruemer is 0-4 with a 7.85 ERA. Sablotny lasted four innings in his last start, taking a loss against Illinois State. Pruemer earned a no-decision in his start against the Redbirds, after a weather delay ended his day early.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-32, and a 5-7 record in MVC play. The Salukis split a pair of midweek games this week, beating SEMO before falling to UT-Martin. The Salukis are hitting .260 this season. Parker Osborne (.322) and Greg Lambert (.311) lead the Salukis in batting average. Lambert also leads the team in hits (50) and RBI (21). The Saluki pitchers enter with an ERA of 6.37. SIU pitchers have combined to strike-out 271 batters this season.
DALLAS BAPTIST SERIES NOTES
DBU leads the all-time series against the Salukis 7-2 since 2006. Head Coach Ken Henderson has led the Salukis to one of those victories. The Patriots swept the Salukis last season.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
DBU enters the weekend with a 29-9 overall record, and 10-5 MVC record. In their last five games, the Patriots are 3-2. DBU enters as the best hitting team in the MVC, hitting .299 this season. Duce Tagg leads the Patriots with a .360 batting average. DBU has six players with at least 40 hits this season. The Patriot pitching staff enters with an ERA of 3.35. The pitching staff has combined for 298 strikeouts this year.

Parker Osborne continues to get on base for SIU, as the senior has reach base in 15-straight games. Chase Slone (12) and Logan Blackfan (10) are also riding double-digit games reaching base.
BLACKFAN GOES FOR TWO
Freshman Logan Blackfan continues to rack up extra base hits, as he now ranks second in the MVC with 14 doubles. Blackfan needs five more doubles to move into a tie for eighth-place for most doubles in a season in Saluki history.
THE BATS ARE HEATING UP
In their last 10 games, the Salukis are hitting .313 with 112 hits, 19 doubles, three triples and six home runs.
FEED ME MORE
Parker Osborne has been feasting on MVC pitchers this season, hitting .464 in seven MVC games. Osborne has collected 13 hits and nine RBI in those games.
MONEY IN THE BANK
Jacob Williams has been money for SIU in conference play this year. The redshirt sophomore has given up only two hits in three appearances in MVC games with five strikeouts.
