Southern Illinois baseball wraps up a nine-game homestand with a Tuesday night game against in-state foe No. 8 Illinois.
TUESDAY'S STARTER
Colin Holderman gets the starting nod for the Salukis on Tuesday. Holderman is 1-0 this season with an ERA of 8.85. In his last outing against Southeast Missouri State, Holderman held the Redhawks to one hit over five innings out of the bullpen. His performance was rewarded with his first career win. The freshman RHP has appeared in seven games this season, pitching 20.1 innings with 32 strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern enters the game with No. 8 Illinois holding a 10-35 record. The Salukis are coming off of a week which saw them earn a 6-2 win over Southeast Missouri State, before dropping games to UT-Martin and No. 15 Dallas Baptist. The Saluki bats have been heating up as of late, as the team is hitting .259 this season. Senior Parker Osborne leads the Salukis with a .324 batting average with 33 hits. Freshman Greg Lambert leads all SIU hitters with 53 hits and 22 RBI. Southern's pitching staff comes into the game with an ERA of 6.30. They have combined for 281 strikeouts this season.
ILLINOIS SERIES NOTES
SIU leads the all-time series 34-33 against Illinois since 1954. Under head coach Ken Henderson, the Salukis are 7-11 against the Illini.

No. 8 Illinois enters the contest on a 17-game winning streak that has helped them to a record of 36-6-1. In their last series, the Illini swept Penn State. Offensively, UI is hitting .289 this season, with five players batting at least .300. Casey Fletcher leads the team with a .350 batting average and 57 hits. Reid Roper is the team lead with 38 RBI. The Illini pitching staff has an ERA of 2.29 this year. Tuesday's starter Rob McDonnell is 5-1 with an ERA of 1.79 this season.

Southern in 45 games this season, the Salukis have recorded double-digit hits in 19 of them, with a season high 17 coming against Illinois State on April 19.

Freshman Logan Blackfan has been a double hitting machine for the Salukis this season. In his last five games, Blackfan has hit five doubles to bring his season total to an MVC leading 16. He is four shy of tying for fifth-place in Saluki history for most doubles in a single season.

The Saluki freshmen have been an important part of the SIU offense, combining for 183 of Southern's 401 hits this season. Greg Lambert (53) and Chase Slone (50) lead the freshmen charge.

Ryan Sabo (7) and Logan Blackfan (6) are both currently riding a multi-game hitting streak and will look to extend it on Tuesday. The longest Saluki hitting streak this season was 12 games by Greg Lambert.
