BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - After facing Illinois State in their final match at the MTSU Shootout last weekend, SIU (6-13) travels to Bloomington, Ill., to take on Redbirds once again on Saturday.
The Salukis fell in their conference opener earlier this week, dropping their match against Wichita State, 7-0. Now, SIU looks to rally back and play tough against Illinois State.
At the MTSU Shootout, SIU and Illinois State faced off in the final match of the tournament to play for fifth place. Despite singles wins by Jonny Rigby and Szymon Opieczonek, the Salukis fell 4-2, finishing in sixth place overall.
Illinois State is 8-10 overall, with only one win at home. Aside from their most recent meeting, the Salukis have topped the Rebirds for the last two seasons, with Illinois State's last victory at the MVC Team Championships in 2012.
Senior Szymon Opieczonek and junior Jonny Rigby have gone undefeated at No. 3 doubles for the last three matches. Rigby has also won all but one match at No. 1 singles in the last four matches.
Following this Saturday's match in Bloomington, the Salukis only have one match left - a home match against Drake - before traveling to St. Louis to host the MVC Team Championships.
Match time for Saturday is set for 11 a.m.
