CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki women's golf team has released its schedule for the 2015-16 season, which consists of five tournaments in the fall and five in the spring, including SIU's own Saluki Invitational.
SIU will open the season at the Redbird Invitational hosted by conference rival Illinois State. From there, the Salukis will compete for three consecutive weekends at the Drake Creek Invitational, the UIC Fall Invitational and the Loyola Invitational.
SIU's fall season will conclude in mid-October at the Red Wolves Classic hosted by Arkansas State. Last year SIU finished third at the Red Wolves Classic led by Mattie Lindner who finished third as an individual.
The spring season will bring heightened competition for the Salukis as they take on strong opponents at the Eagle Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla., followed by the Jaguar Invitational in Alabama and the ORU/SFA Women's Spring Break Invite in Dallas. After opening with three tournaments on the road, SIU will return home to host the 22nd Annual Saluki Invitational. Last season the Salukis took their fourth straight title at the Saluki Invitational, topping sister-school SIU-Edwardsville by only one stroke.
The Murray State Racer Classic in early April will conclude SIU's regular season play, leading into the MVC Championships the following week hosted by Loyola in Chicago.
"This schedule is one where the Salukis can be very competitive during every event," head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "We will face strong mid-major competition and Missouri Valley opponents quite frequently throughout the year. The ladies will be prepared for the MVC Championships by the end of the year."
