Trebisky wins ITA/Arthur Ashe Jr. Award

New York-- Junior transfer Shane Trebisky is being honored with the ITA/Arthur Ashe Jr. Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.
Trebisky, who joined the Salukis during the summer, is receiving the award for his accomplishments at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Miss..
The ITA gives the award to a male and female tennis player in NCAA Division I, II and III as well as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and junior college levels. The ITA has been giving the award to student athletes who exhibit outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements since 1982.
In 2014, Trebisky was the Eagles' team captain and posted a 25-3 record on his way to a regional championship. In the classroom Trebisky's work earned him the distinction of Academic All-American as well as Meridian Community College's Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Trebisky volunteered his free time with Tennis Across America, a program that teaches underprivileged children the game of tennis. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Trebisky, along with the rest of his team, volunteered with the Salvation Army and participated in breast cancer awareness walks.
"I'm really proud of [the award]," Trebisky said. "To win the national award is big. A lot of people say this is best award to win, so it means a lot to win it."
