Salukis hold day one lead at Loyola Fall Invitational

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. - Led by freshman Sun Young Jung, the Saluki women's golf team holds a nine-stroke lead over the ten team field at the Loyola Fall Invitational in Flossmoor, Ill. Southern shot 619 over 36-holes to open day one of play at Flossmoor Country Club.
"Sun was on fire for us today," head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "She rolled in quite a few birdies and these greens were lightning fast. She is one shot out of the lead and mentally has the game to give the leader a run for her money tomorrow."
Jung was impressive for SIU on Monday, carding rounds of 74 and 75 (149) to finish the day in second-place. The 74 shot by Jung in round one was the lowest of her Saluki career. Competing as an individual, Alice Ho surged up the leaderboard to finish the day in fourth place after she shot rounds of 77 and 76. Mattie Lindner sits in fifth-place after shooting a 74 in the first round and an 80 in round two. After a runner-up finish in her last outing, Brooke Cusumano (80-77) is currently tied for 11th. Rounding out the Saluki team scores is Kristie Yang (77-82), who is tied for 16th and Hanna Netisingha (83-82), tied for 28th.
"The team will need to play every shot one at a time tomorrow," Mihelich said. "It will all come down to putting. If we keep rolling them on the high side and get the speed down, we will have some low scores."
The Salukis will look to wrap-up their second team win of the season on Tuesday, as the final round of the Loyola Invitational comes to a close. The final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
