10/25/2016 | 2:30:00 | Men's Tennis
The SIU Men's Tennis team is officially done for the tournament season as they concluded play at the ITA Central Regional Championships.
Overall the team went 10-9 in the tournament making some big wins in both singles and doubles play.
"I think the tournament was a great success," Coach Jonny Rigby said. "The tournament had some of the top teams in the whole nation, so to come away with a positive record is a huge achievement for our program. Piotr and Alex's in doubles over the #13 in the nation team was also a great achievement."
Piotr Baranski and Alex Pozo beat Felix Corwin and Matic Spec from Minnesota 8-5, sending them forward into the round of 16 in doubles play. Baranski was also the one on the team who made it the farthest in singles play.
With the team now being on a break until spring, Rigby said that they are going to use this time for improvements and to focus on maintaining their levels.
"Every guy will have different things that they feel they need to improve after this season," Rigby said. "I think this is a great time for the guys to work on their specific needs. After the success we had last year and this fall, we feel really confident heading into the spring season."
The team will be back in action for the spring season on January 14, 2017 in Knoxville, TN.
