The SIU Men's Tennis team is set to open the season with two days of continuous play. The Salukis face the University of Tennessee and Austin Peay State University this weekend.
Â
"We have a very experienced team and I expect the team to kick off from the success of last spring and this fall," Jonny Rigby, graduate assistant and coach of the team said. "Tennessee and is a great team and Austin Peay are a consistently good team. We know we are going to have to play great tennis to get a result."
Â
Along with an experienced team including ITA ranked Piotr Baranski and Alex Pozo, the Salukis added a fresh face to the roster. Param Pun, the newest member of the team, is a first semester freshman from Chandigargh, India. He was ranked #12 in India in Under-18, and #8 in Under-16.
Â
"We are excited to welcome Param to the Saluki Family. His extensive experience playing in the ITF's and national tournaments will help his transition into college tennis. He has an all-court game and will be able to help us right away in doubles and singles," Director of Tennis, Audra Anderson said.
