Saluki Athletics to hold inaugural Giving Tuesday event

CARBONDALE, Ill. — For the first time in departmental history, Saluki Athletics will ask its fans and supporters to participate in Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.
The event takes place this year on Nov. 29, a day in which Saluki fans will be encouraged to join the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund, or if they are already members, to increase their annual gift by 10 percent. The 900-member strong SASF is the primary fund-raising arm for the athletic department, and annual contributions go directly toward scholarship costs.
"Giving Tuesday falls just days after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and flows from the American spirit of generosity and willingness to support worthwhile causes," said SIU Director of Athletics Tommy Bell. "Every dollar you give to the SASF makes a difference in the lives of our more than 350 student-athletes. We need your help, and no gift is too small."
Since its founding in 2012, millions of people have come together on #GivingTuesday to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.
